Where do I report?

Where do I go the day I ride with HCMC EMS?

General Guidelines:

Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes. No blue jeans. Emergencies occur in all types of terrain a good sturdy shoe or boot is a necessary safety item. Inappropriately dressed individuals may be refused their ride along by the on duty supervisor. The department will provide an identifying outer garment.

Plan on arriving in the department ready to start your shift a minimum of 15 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.

Parking:

There are a variety of parking lots and ramps near the hospital on an hourly basis. There is also limited street parking. Note: we are unable to validate parking.

Shift Starts between 08:00 and 16:00:

Report to the Emergency Medical Services business office. Notify the receptionist that you are here to ride along with the ambulance service. Make sure you bring a completed and signed instruction sheet and release agreement with you. (Exception: Students from approved programs who have previously signed and returned completed forms to the ride along coordinator). The entrance to the business office is at the corner of Sixth Street and Park Avenue, on the first floor of the north parking ramp. (See campus maps on the How do I get to HCMC page).

Shift Starts before 08:00 or after 16:00:

Report to the Emergency room security desk, located just inside the Emergency room Pedestrian entrance near the corner of Eight Street and Chicago Avenue. Notify the security guard that you are riding with the ambulance service. They will call the Communication Center and arrange to have you picked up. For these Shifts, I recommend arriving approximately 30 minutes prior to your scheduled shift start time.
